Features

What is ZMB ENERGY™?

ZMB ENERGY™ is a micronutritional complex combining magnesium, zinc, selenium, vitamin C, and eight B-group vitamins. The magnesium and zinc are supplied in Albion® TRAACS® chelated bisglycinate forms. Chelated organic forms have superior bioavailability to inorganic forms. See "Science and References" below.

Magnesium is supplied as Buffered 18%. A Buffered bisglycinate is not a pure bisglycinate: it combines a fraction of chelated bisglycinate magnesium with magnesium oxide. The raw material still consists of 60% chelated bisglycinate and reaches 18% elemental magnesium, compared to approximately 10% for an unbuffered bisglycinate. See "Why this formulation" below.

How does it work?

The micronutrients in the formula are involved in distinct physiological functions. Magnesium and several B vitamins contribute to normal energy metabolism and the reduction of fatigue. Magnesium and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B8, and B12 contribute to the normal functioning of the nervous system. Zinc, selenium, and vitamin C contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system. None of these micronutrients are produced by the body: they are obtained through diet or supplementation.

Who is ZMB ENERGY™ for?

For individuals looking to supplement their intake of vitamins, minerals, and trace elements, particularly during periods of fatigue, sustained physical activity, or prolonged stress.

Dosage

How to take ZMB ENERGY™?

Take 2 capsules daily with a large glass of water, preferably during a meal.

How long should I take it?

A bottle of 90 capsules provides 45 days of use at the recommended dose.

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

In your routine

ZMB ENERGY™ in your routine

ZMB ENERGY™ supplements micronutrient intake when diet alone is not enough. It is not intended to be a substitute for your diet, but rather to fill gaps over time.

Morning or midday

Take your 2 capsules with a meal, preferably in the first part of the day. Taking them with a meal makes it easier and fits into an established routine.

During high-demand periods

Micronutrient needs increase during periods of sustained training, return to activity, or prolonged workload. It is during these periods that consistency of intake matters most.

Consistency above all else

The exact time of intake matters less than consistency. Daily intake, maintained over several weeks, remains the simplest way to use ZMB ENERGY™.

Science & Reference

Magnesium forms do not have the same bioavailability

The chemical form in which magnesium is provided influences its absorption. A systematic review published in 2021, covering 14 comparative studies, concludes that inorganic formulations appear generally less bioavailable than organic formulations, while also noting that absorption depends on the administered dose. [1]

What is Buffered Bisglycinate?

In a magnesium bisglycinate, magnesium is complexed with two glycine molecules to form a chelate. A Buffered bisglycinate is not a pure bisglycinate: it combines this chelated fraction with magnesium oxide.

Albion® offers two distinct grades in its TRAACS® range: non-Buffered Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate, titrated at 10% elemental magnesium, and Buffered Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate, titrated at 18%, used in ZMB ENERGY™. [4] This second raw material is still 60% chelated bisglycinate and provides 112.5 mg of magnesium in 2 capsules per day.

What the bioavailability study on the Buffered grade shows

A randomized, double-blind, crossover study compared different forms of magnesium in 14 healthy adults. Each participant received, during separate visits, 150 mg of elemental magnesium, including in the form of magnesium oxide, chelated bisglycinate, and buffered chelated bisglycinate. Blood samples were taken before administration and then at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8 hours. [2]

In this study, the average serum magnesium concentrations observed with buffered chelated bisglycinate and with non-buffered chelated bisglycinate were statistically higher than those observed with magnesium oxide alone (p < 0.05). [2]

The study also reports the AUC (Area Under the Curve) of the serum response over 8 hours:

Buffered chelated bisglycinate: 0.225
Non-buffered chelated bisglycinate: 0.164
Magnesium oxide: 0.109

[see chart below]

The study does not report a statistical comparison establishing the superiority of buffered bisglycinate over non-buffered bisglycinate. The corresponding AUC values should therefore be considered as descriptive data for this study. [2]

These data indicate that the presence of oxide in a buffered raw material does not allow its behavior to be equated with that of magnesium oxide used alone.

The buffering role of glycine

Albion® technical documentation indicates that the glycine provided by the bisglycinate fraction exerts a buffering effect within this formulation: it slows down the increase in intestinal pH caused by the oxide and helps maintain magnesium in soluble form. [3] The Buffered technology thus aims to combine elemental magnesium density and bioavailability.

These elements come from the technical documentation and the study by the raw material manufacturer.

Documented bioavailability for zinc bisglycinate

The zinc in ZMB ENERGY™ is provided as Albion® TRAACS® chelated bisglycinate. In a crossover clinical study conducted in 12 healthy volunteers, with an equivalent intake of 15 mg of elemental zinc, zinc bisglycinate showed significantly higher oral bioavailability than zinc gluconate. [5]

Recognized physiological functions

Magnesium contributes notably to reducing fatigue, to the normal functioning of the nervous system and to normal energy metabolism. Zinc contributes notably to the normal functioning of the immune system and to the protection of cells against oxidative stress. [6]

ZMB Energy

Why this formulation?

Why combine 12 vitamins, minerals and trace elements?
To cover complementary functions in a single dose rather than treating them separately: fatigue, nervous system, immunity and cell protection are all addressed by different micronutrients.

Why Buffered Albion® TRAACS® 18% magnesium bisglycinate?
Because an unbuffered bisglycinate contains about 10% elemental magnesium: almost twice as much raw material would have been needed for the same intake, in a capsule that already contains eleven other micronutrients. In Buffered technology, the oxide is not just a diluent: it provides the density in elemental magnesium, while the glycine in the bisglycinate fraction has a buffering effect that helps maintain this highly assimilable magnesium. The raw material still consists of 60% chelated bisglycinate. See "Science and references".
