Features

What is FER BISGLYCINATE™?

FER BISGLYCINATE™ is a dual-active formula combining 14 mg of iron in the form of Albion® Ferrochel® bisglycinate with 100 mg of PureWay-C® vitamin C, representing 100% of the NRVs for iron and 125% of the NRVs for vitamin C per capsule.

Iron is an essential mineral: the body does not synthesize it and must obtain it from food. In Ferrochel®, it is not supplied as a mineral salt but is chelated, meaning it is bound to two molecules of glycine, an amino acid.

PureWay-C® is a complex combining L-ascorbic acid with plant-derived lipid metabolites and citrus bioflavonoids.

How does it work?

Iron is a component of hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that transports oxygen from the lungs to the tissues, and myoglobin, its equivalent in muscle. It also acts as a cofactor in cellular energy production reactions. Through these functions, iron contributes to normal oxygen transport and the reduction of fatigue.

Vitamin C directly affects the fate of dietary iron: it maintains non-heme iron in its reduced form, which is absorbed in the intestine. This mechanism supports the authorized claim "vitamin C increases iron absorption."

Who is it for?

FER BISGLYCINATE™ is intended for individuals wishing to supplement their iron intake. Certain profiles require particular attention: women of childbearing age, whose reference needs are higher than those of men; endurance athletes, whose training increases iron loss; and people following a predominantly plant-based diet, as plant-derived iron is less well absorbed than animal-derived iron, especially in the presence of phytates.

Vitamin C is particularly beneficial for the latter profile, as it specifically acts on the absorption of non-heme iron.

Dosage

1 capsule per day, with a glass of water.

A single daily dose provides 14 mg of iron and 100 mg of vitamin C, representing 100% and 125% of the NRVs.

The time of day for taking it is flexible. To optimize absorption, take the capsule separately from tea, coffee, and dairy products, as some compounds in these—tannins and calcium—reduce iron absorption. Taking it in the morning or between meals is suitable.

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. There is no benefit in taking a double dose: beyond the body's needs, additional iron is not utilized more effectively by the body.

In your routine

One capsule per day, a pill box of 60 capsules.

Two months of treatment without having to think about it.This is the format that makes regularity sustainable, and regularity is what counts for micronutrient intake.

With regularity

Iron lends itself well to a course of treatment over several weeks rather than occasional use. Intake builds up over time, not from a single dose.

As part of a protocol

The formula comes in a single daily capsule: it can be easily combined with a Corgenic protocol that does not contain iron, to avoid multiplying doses or duplicating active ingredients. Iron is a mineral for which intake should be considered in terms of the entire supplementation, and not product by product.

Science & Reference

Albion® Ferrochel®: measured human absorption

Ferrochel® has been the subject of absorption studies using radiolabeled iron, the reference method for measuring actual iron absorption in humans.

In a series of five experiments conducted on 74 subjects, iron absorption from Ferrochel® was approximately twice that of ferrous sulfate, from breakfasts prepared with pre-cooked corn flour or wheat flour [1]. This result was found whether the two forms were administered during the same meal or at separate meals.

The same study tested classic dietary inhibitors of iron absorption: coffee and tea polyphenols reduced absorption in a dose-dependent manner [1].

This work focuses on enriched food matrices in a fortification context. It documents the behavior of the raw material, not the finished product.

Ascorbic acid and iron bisglycinate

An absorption study conducted on 14 iron-replete subjects measured the effect of ascorbic acid on iron bisglycinate absorption: at a molar ratio of 2 to 1, iron absorption increased 1.4-fold from a whole milk matrix [2].

FER BISGLYCINATE™ provides 100 mg of vitamin C for 14 mg of iron, a molar ratio of the same order, close to 2 to 1.

PureWay-C®: absorption kinetics studied in humans

PureWay-C® combines vitamin C with plant-derived lipid metabolites and citrus bioflavonoids. This form has been the subject of comparative studies, particularly on its absorption kinetics.

In a randomized, double-blind study conducted on 40 healthy volunteers, four forms of vitamin C were compared after a single dose of 1,000 mg [3]. PureWay-C® produced the highest serum vitamin C concentrations among the forms studied, significantly higher than those obtained with calcium ascorbate at 1, 2, 4, and 6 hours after ingestion.

This study documents the characteristics of PureWay-C® at an experimental dose of 1,000 mg. It does not constitute a clinical study of FER BISGLYCINATE™ at its dosage of 100 mg of vitamin C.

Why this formulation?

Why Albion® Ferrochel®?
Because this chelated form has human absorption studies conducted with the raw material itself, not with a generic bisglycinate.

Why 14 mg, and not more?
Because 14 mg covers 100% of the NRVs. Beyond that, additional iron is not better utilized by the body.

Why PureWay-C®?
For its patented form combining L-ascorbic acid, plant lipid metabolites, and citrus bioflavonoids, studied in humans.

Why 100 mg of vitamin C?
Because vitamin C increases iron absorption. This dosage places the formula at a molar ratio of approximately 2 to 1, consistent with absorption studies conducted on bisglycinate iron.

Why only two active ingredients?
Because no third ingredient would have strengthened this logic. Two active ingredients, one capsule per day.
