Features

What is MAGNESIUM BISGLYCINATE 300?

A dual-active formula: Albion® TRAACS® chelated magnesium bisglycinate and vitamin B6. Bisglycinate is an organic form in which magnesium is complexed with two glycine molecules. Chelated organic forms have superior bioavailability compared to inorganic forms. See "Science and references" below.

The magnesium is provided at a Buffered 18% grade. A Buffered bisglycinate is not a pure bisglycinate: it combines a fraction of chelated magnesium bisglycinate with magnesium oxide. The raw material remains 60% chelated bisglycinate and reaches 18% elemental magnesium, compared to approximately 10% for unbuffered bisglycinate. See "Why this formulation" below.

How does it work?

Magnesium is an essential mineral that the body does not produce: it is supplied through diet or supplementation. It is involved in the normal functioning of the nervous system, muscle function, and energy metabolism. Vitamin B6 contributes to the same nervous and psychological functions, as well as to the normal metabolism of proteins and glycogen.

Who is MAGNESIUM BISGLYCINATE 300 for?

For people who want a clearly dosed magnesium intake, especially during periods of nervous strain, regular physical activity, or prolonged stress.

Dosage

How to take MAGNESIUM BISGLYCINATE 300?

Take 3 capsules daily with a large glass of water, preferably with a meal. The 3 capsules can be taken at once or spread throughout the day.

How long should I take it?

One bottle of 90 capsules corresponds to 30 days of use at the recommended dose.

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

In your routine

MAGNESIUM BISGLYCINATE 300 in your routine

Magnesium is primarily obtained through diet. MAGNESIUM BISGLYCINATE 300 supplements this intake when it is difficult to achieve, providing 300 mg of elemental magnesium per day.

In one or several doses

Take your 3 capsules with a meal, either all at once if convenient, or spread throughout the day—for example, at breakfast and dinner. Dividing the dose does not change the total intake.

During demanding periods

Magnesium requirements vary depending on physical activity, lifestyle, and diet. Periods of regular training or prolonged exertion are times when a supplementary intake is naturally beneficial.

Consistency above all

The timing of intake is less important than consistency. Daily intake, maintained over several weeks, remains the simplest way to use MAGNESIUM BISGLYCINATE 300.

Science & Reference

Magnesium forms do not have the same bioavailability

The chemical form in which magnesium is provided influences its absorption. A systematic review published in 2021, based on 14 comparative studies, concludes that inorganic formulations generally appear less bioavailable than organic formulations, while also emphasizing that absorption also depends on the administered dose. [1]

What chelated bisglycinate is

In magnesium bisglycinate, magnesium is complexed with two glycine molecules to form a chelate. Albion®'s TRAACS® label certifies the chelation level of the raw material. This structure distinguishes bisglycinate from inorganic magnesium salts, in which the mineral is not bound to an amino acid.

What "Buffered" grade means

A Buffered bisglycinate is not a pure bisglycinate: it combines the chelated fraction with magnesium oxide. Albion® offers two distinct grades in its TRAACS® range: non-Buffered Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate, standardized to 10% elemental magnesium, and Buffered Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate, standardized to 18%, used in MAGNESIUM BISGLYCINATE 300. [4] This second raw material still consists of 60% chelated bisglycinate and allows for 300 mg of elemental magnesium in 3 capsules per day.

What the bioavailability study on the Buffered grade shows

A randomized, double-blind, crossover study compared different forms of magnesium in 14 healthy adults. Each participant received, on separate visits, 150 mg of elemental magnesium, notably in the form of magnesium oxide, chelated bisglycinate, and Buffered chelated bisglycinate — the Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate Buffered Albion® TRAACS® grade used in MAGNESIUM BISGLYCINATE 300. Blood samples were taken before administration and then at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8 hours. [2]

In this study, the mean serum magnesium concentrations observed with Buffered chelated bisglycinate and with non-Buffered chelated bisglycinate were statistically higher than those observed with magnesium oxide alone (p < 0.05). [2]

The study also reports the AUC (Area Under the Curve) of the serum response over 8 hours:

Buffered chelated bisglycinate: 0.225
Non-Buffered chelated bisglycinate: 0.164
Magnesium oxide: 0.109

[see chart below]

The study does not report a statistical comparison establishing the superiority of Buffered bisglycinate over non-Buffered bisglycinate. The corresponding AUC values should therefore be considered as descriptive data from this study. [2]

These data indicate that the presence of oxide in a Buffered raw material does not allow its behavior to be equated with that of magnesium oxide used alone.

The buffering role of glycine

Albion® technical documentation indicates that the glycine provided by the bisglycinate fraction exerts a buffering effect within this formulation: it limits the increase in intestinal pH caused by the oxide and helps magnesium remain in a dissolved, and therefore assimilable, form. [3] The Buffered technology thus aims to combine elemental magnesium density and bioavailability.

These elements are derived from the raw material manufacturer's technical documentation and study.

The role of vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system, normal psychological functions, normal protein and glycogen metabolism, and the reduction of fatigue. [5]

Magnesium Bisglycinate 300

Why this formulation?

Why 300 mg of elemental magnesium per day?
For a substantial intake, covering 80% of NRVs, rather than a symbolic dosage. This is the level at which a supplement truly plays its role as a supplement.

Why Albion® TRAACS® Buffered Magnesium Bisglycinate 18%?
Because unbuffered bisglycinate contains about 10% elemental magnesium: reaching 300 mg per day would require almost double the raw material, or about 1,000 mg per capsule—impossible to package—or taking 5 or 6 capsules daily. The 18% grade allows for this dosage in 3 capsules, with a raw material composed of 60% chelated bisglycinate. In Buffered technology, oxide is not just a diluent: it provides the elemental magnesium density, while the glycine in the bisglycinate fraction exerts a buffering effect that helps maintain this highly absorbable magnesium. See "Science and References."
